The Wessex Muse Magazine

The Wessex Muse is a free monthly publication published by Musera Ltd, featuring the work of local artist, musicians, writers, and craftsmen in Southwest England. The magazine’s initial goal was to create an artistic renaissance in this particular region of England, by offering an extremely accessible yet sophisticated publication.

Guftagu was asked to create the branding and identity for the magazine, as well as the original template design, monthly layout design, and website design. The brand is simple, sophisticated, yet eye-catching and modern – helping the magazine to stand out from the selection of other free publications.

The ongoing challenge is to create layouts that complement the featured artists without destroying the integrity of their work, while also helping the features stand out among a heavily ad-based magazine. To address this, a template was designed with a clear grid, a unique color palette, and an icon system for each category that makes the magazine easy to navigate.

The result – a beautiful, respected magazine, which is now viewed as the main source for arts and culture in Southwest England.
